Film Acting
This is an actor who portrays a character in a film. This type of actor is filled with various avenues for exploration, aside from feature films produced by major studios, actors can audition for parts in independent films, student films, short films and other smaller budget projects. However, even though there are multiple opportunities out there still is an abundance of competition everywhere you look.
TV Acting
This can be characterized as someone who portrays a character in a program series on television. This typically is made up on a lower budget model and also comes with less opportunities. If someone is interested in starting, they may be encouraged to start out in web series or online projects.

Theatre Acting
Give me life or give me death.. No? Not funny? Sorry about that one but that’s what theatre is all about. These types of actors can’t be location sensitive because these opportunities typically thrive in areas that enjoy watching these performances. London and New York might be a good starting ground for some looking to one day have their name in the big lights, with Chicago and San Fransisco following behind.
Voiceover Acting
Love watching cartoons? I hate to break it to you but those little characters you see aren’t real. I know.. I felt the same betrayal you are feeling now but funny enough it shows you just how creative some people can be. The voice actors have multiple opportunities to apply for multiple roles without being negatively stereotyped based on their previous work.

Commercial Acting
Can you hear me…. Can you hear me now? This guy may not be seen as a huge celebrity but almost anyone in their 20s-40s can hear that line and instantly picture a person in their head. Commercials usually want someone with a little training and improv skills if need be to give it a more “natural” feel. The best part about this type of acting is the royalties because it truly is the gift that keeps on giving.
Extra/Background Acting
Think about your favorite movie you ever watched before, mine would have to be Jason Bourne: The identity. One of the best scenes would be him fleeing through a crowd of people before inevitably escaping. Now imagine it just being the main actors chasing each other, sounds kind of silly right? This is what a world of programs without extras sound like, so even though they aren’t recognized by all they serve a huge purpose in keeping the illusion that the movie is real life. Not to mention you can make a good bit of change in this industry.
